Ladies and gents.. Brisa Duran!
1) What is your full name?
Brisa Anaïs Duran
2) Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Downey, CA pretty much my entire life.
3) Where did you meet your husband and how long have you been married?
I met my husband in high school and never thought that he would end up being the love of my life. I think I felt that way because when your in high school you just don’t think that, at least I didn’t. This November will be our 13th wedding anniversary.
4) Where did you get married?
We actually didn’t have a big wedding. We were young and didn’t have a lot of money to spend on wedding so had a small ceremony and a reception after with only our immediate families. I think now I would like to have a destination wedding / renewal the vows ceremony.
5) When you got pregnant, did you want to know the sex of your baby?
I actually didn’t but my husband insisted he find out right away. We did a gender reveal party and I wanted us to find out with everyone but since he was was going to find out I wanted both of us to know at the same time. And can I say I am so glad I found out at the doctors office with him because I think I would have made a fool out of myself in front of everyone at the party.
6) How did it feel when you knew you were having a little boy?
Frank and I thought we were for sure going to have a girl. I even had dreams that I was with a little girl and she was playing with our dogs so I was dead set it was going to be a girl. We even had a name! The day of our doctor visit the nurse says, “do you guys want to know the sex of your baby?” We said yes of course, she turned the screen and said “it’s a boy!” We were so shocked that we were literally speechless. I now thank god we have a boy because he is more than I could have ever wanted.
7) How did you get into fashion?
I can say with honesty that I have always loved fashion since I could remember. I would wear different things than other kids used to when I was in elementary school and in middle school I felt more comfortable having fun with it. I would set a weekly wardrobe of outfits I wanted to wear and even put post its labeled, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. I would break my own rules and never wore them on the exact days, haha!
8) Who are your fashion icons?
Sarah Jessica Parker aka Carrie Bradshaw of course. I love that she has fun with fashion and isn’t afraid to wear what she loves. Olivia Palermo because she is so effortless chic in everything! Last but not least the legendary Coco Chanel, her tweed pieces will carry on forever.
9) What are you go-to sources for fashion inspo? (ie magazines, insta accounts websites, etc)
My number one go to for inspiration is Pinterest. I have boards for different styles that if I feel stumped I can look through it and something will inspire me in no time. My go to fashion magazines are Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, and Vouge. Instagram is a great outlet for inspiration too that my favorites are @songofstyle, @blaireadiebee, and @bittersweetcolours just to name a few.
10) What is a trend that you simply don't understand?
Ok, what is up with dresses and sneakers?! I am personally not a fan and it confuses me so much! I know I wont wear that combo but honestly even on the trendy bloggers it doesn’t look good. Sandals and dresses, yes. Sneakers and dresses, not so much. You know what it reminds me of? The ladies in downtown that are on their break walking in their sneakers. Ok I’m done on my rant. Haha!
11) What is a trend you wish never left?
Oh this is tough but I have always loved flared jeans. They come and go all the time but can we just make it a forever style to wear? I love all things retro and there’s something about the 70’s that I think is so cool and effortless. I actually still wear my high waisted flare jeans and get asked all the time where I find them. My answer to that is everywhere, really! TJ Maxx, Zara, and JBrand at Nordstroms.
11) Aside from being a fashionista mommy and wifey, do you have another occupation?
Aside from fashion, mom life, and being a wife I am a hairstylist. I have been behind the chair for almost 13 1/2 years now and I truly love it. Making people feel great and even transforming their look is gratifying in so many ways. If someone would have told me this would be my career I’d say you’re crazy! No way! But I’m glad it’s something I fell in love with. Hair color and hair cutting can be so creative and artistic.
12) I f you could have dinner with one of your icons, with whom would it be? Where would you go? What would you order?
Without a doubt I would have dinner with Sarah Jessica Parker. I met her when she launched her shoe line at The Grove and she is exactly what she portrays. She is super nice, sweet and down to earth. She left a big impression on me that I would love to get to know her. I would take her to Rossoblu which is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in LA. The food there is beyond delicious and of course I would have pasta because it’s made in house.
13) What would you call your style?
Hmmm, I would say my style is chic. I’m not that big into trends if something fits my style then I’ll make it my own.
14) Where is your go-to shopping place?
I don’t have a place really. Some of my favorite stores are JCrew, Mango, Zara, Madewell, H&M, Anthropologie and Nordstroms. I also love to shop boutiques because I like to support small businesses, it’s a win win.
15) Do you have any fashion and/or home decor advice?
With fashion I always say to stay true to who you are and what is going to make you feel the most happiest. Just because the trend is to wear dresses with sneakers doesn’t mean you have to do it! When you get dressed in the morning you have to be comfortable and confident because that is going to translate to others. As far as your home goes it should be your happy place that you can sit back and actually love to be home. Let it represent who you are and how it’s going to make you feel when you walk in. I like to keep it neutral but with a little glam because it makes me happy. Play with textures, colors, patterns, and shapes too.
16) What is something you would splurge and something you would recommend to save our dollars?
A part of me wants to say splurge on classic pieces that you can wear year after year like a trench coat, however there are so many great trenches now that are budget friendly. I would say splurge on that Chanel iconic quilted bag because they don’t loose value and you could sell whenever. Ladies please save your dollars on that red sole bottom shoe. Christian Louboutins are incredibly painful and the only thing they will give you is blisters and possibly numb your cute toes. I am guilty of having one too many pairs and I wish I would have learned my lesson with the first pair I bought. Instead buy some classic Manolos or Pradas only if you want to treat yourself to some comfy designer shoes.
17) Do you have any projects in the near future?
I have a lot of home projects coming up that I am very excited about. Our home has some great bones and so far we have made some big changes but now is the time to get back to it and continue making it ours. Working on the back yard, front porch, and remodel the main restroom. No biggie, right? Ha!
18) What would be your dream job?
My dream job is to one day own my very own boutique. I have always dreamt of that and maybe that’s why I love to shop boutiques because I know it’s a lot of work. I was thinking of maybe starting with an online boutique first but my vision is to open those front doors, turn on the lights, music, and have people come in and find that cute dress, jumpsuit or top that they didn’t know they needed.
19) If you can have a design collab, with whom or what brand would you have it with? Would it be for fashion? or home?
This is such a tough question! Can I do both? Ok but seriously my mind is going with so many great fashion designers because that would be the ultimate dream. I would have to say Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. He has changed it so much while keeping it true to who Coco Chanel was. I love that the brand is still classy yet fun and youthful. That tweed blazer or skirt will always be a must have.
20) When are you starting your blog?!
Well I think that I have procrastinated it long enough so I am now giving myself a time frame. Instead of watching Friends or SATC (Sex and The City) before bed I will work on that. Give me a month and I will have my blog!
