"There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish." —Michelle Obama
A dream can be accomplished with a community of passionate like-mind individuals. Thank you to everyone who made the 3rd Annual Girls Yoga Day a success! The room was buzzing with energy, love and so much happiness. It was an incredible day for all.
The idea for Girls Yoga Day (GYD) was a designed with the thought of creating an event for women, by women, celebrating women.
This year GYD was held at the city of Downey first-ever yoga studio, Downey Yoga. Nestled in the midst of the bustling downtown of the Southeast Los Angeles metropolis, Downey Yoga is the perfect place for both novice and seasoned yogis.
This year we had the honor of having Holistic Healer Rubi Rios and her Reiki apprentice Alyssa Greigo attend and offer their healing services to our community. Rubi, a clairvoyant, clairsentient, psychic-medium, and spiritual guide is the ultimate boss babe. She is a beautiful soul that seeks those who need healing and guidance. Rubi's guidance through her Intuitive Readings allows you to get a clearer picture on what you need to focus on to heal your current wound, keep you motivated, or simply continue to live a happy life.
Alyssa shared her healing gifts with the attendees of GYD by offering Reiki. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by placing hands over the aura. Through this process chakras are alignied and blockages emotionally or physically created are cleared. By removing and aligning chakras your energy remains in a positive light. This allows you to feel much 'lighter' and happier.
Every year we offer a beautiful and delicious spread of healthy eats for our GYDers. The first ever Girls Yoga Day, chef and professional baker, Wendy Samano of Baby Pastries prepared a vegan lunch of chile rellenos, grilled veggies, fresh salad and an amazing buñelo dessert. This year, Downey Yoga owner, Jovon Bernal, created a delicious summer inspired vegan lunch featuring vegan ceviche with chickpeas, jalapeños, bell peppers, onions, and Iime, various salads including fresh Thai carrot salad and kale berry salad along with unique spreads like maharama and roasted pepper hummus.
Every GYD we try to introduce a new offering. The first Girls Yoga Day, we featured an aspiring henna artist. The second we were led into meditation by Downey Yoga instructor and mental health advocate Jesse Schiffmacher and this year we had the privilege to get dolled up by Salon 1971's Veronica Lafarga. Veronica has been enhancing lives through hair and makeup for over 11 years. She's passionate about her art and enjoys making her clients feel beautiful both inside and out. Veronica led our Braid Bar by offering over 6 different braid styles from classic french braid to the ever-so-popular double braid crown.
In addition to yoga, reiki, intuitive readings, and a braid bar, the 3rd Annual Girls Yoga Day featured a flower bar to make a bouquet or a boho-inspired flower crown. The station was a success! The GYDers where bonding through the trials and tribulations of the bouquet and crown making process. They all shared laughs and made wonderful memories. Each yogi was able to show off their flower crown making skills with their very own boho inspired photo shoot.
The annual GYD event is in honor and celebration of women in our community. From the women entrepreneurs sharing their talents to women sharing their love through yoga, meditation and by simply spending time with each other. We all deserve a little escape and celebration to keep us inspired to live happy and healthy.
We are so excited to keep the Girls Yoga Day a tradition! We challenge ourselves to keep the event fresh, relevant, and fun.
Until next year GYDers!
